Do Remote Pujas Really Work?
A Vedic Perspective on Energy, Intention, and Transformation
By Thejyotish® | vedic.thejyotish.co.uk
What Is a Remote Puja?
A remote puja is a sacred Vedic ritual performed on your behalf by qualified priests, even if you are not physically present. It includes mantra chanting (jaap), fire offerings (yajna), sankalpa (spiritual intention), and daan (charity).
While it may sound surprising to some, your physical presence is not required for the puja to work. What matters is the energy field, intention, and proper ritual alignment — all of which transcend physical location.
The Skeptic’s View: Is This a Scam?
Many people — even students of astrology — are hesitant to recommend pujas. “How can a ritual work if I’m not even there?” they ask. I’ve heard it often.
From the layperson’s perspective, that skepticism is valid. We’re conditioned to believe that physical presence is essential. But Vedic cosmology paints a broader picture.
The Vedic View on Distance
In the Rig Veda, the Purusha Suktam offers a profound understanding of Divine omnipresence:
सहस्रशीर्षा पुरुषः सहस्राक्षः सहस्रपात् ।
स भूमिं विश्वतो वृत्वा अत्यतिष्ठद्दशाङुलम् ॥
Sahasra-śīrṣā Puruṣaḥ, sahasrākṣaḥ sahasra-pāt |
Sa bhūmiṁ viśvato vṛtvā, atyatishṭhad-daśāṅgulam ||“The Purusha has a thousand heads, eyes, and feet. He pervades the entire Earth and extends ten fingers beyond it.”
पादोऽस्य विश्वा भूतानि त्रिपादस्यामृतं दिवि ।
त्रिपादूर्ध्व उदैत्पुरुषः पादोऽस्येहाभवत्पुनः ॥
Pādo’sya viśvā bhūtāni tripādasyāmṛtaṁ divi |
Tripādūrdhva udaitpuruṣaḥ pādo’syehābhavat punaḥ ||“One quarter of Him is this manifest universe. Three quarters of His glory lie in the unseen, immortal realm.”
From the Vedic perspective, space and distance are illusions. The sankalpa (intention) offered in your name is what connects your energy to the ritual — no matter where you are in the world. Distance, as we understand it, is irrelevant to the Divine.
The Mechanics: Energy, Sankalpa, and Transformation
Remote pujas work because of conservation of energy. As the law says, energy cannot be created or destroyed — only transformed or transferred.
In a physical puja, the yajman may be present and emotionally engaged. In a remote puja, the priest becomes your proxy, transmitting your sankalpa with full intention. Both are valid. They simply operate through different mechanics.
How Remote Pujas Actually Work
When done with proper procedure, sincerity, and spiritual alignment, remote pujas can have powerful effects. Here’s how:
- Sankalpa (Intention): Your name, gotra, nakshatra, and purpose are spoken aloud to anchor your energy into the ritual.
- The Puja (The Ritual Process): Once the sankalpa is established, a traditional Vedic puja is performed, involving offerings, deva invocation, abhishekam (ritual bathing), and devata upasana (worship) depending on the graha or purpose.
- Mantra Jaap (Vibrational Healing): Mantras are cosmic sound formulas that create vibrational shifts in your aura, mind, and karmic layers.
- Yajna (Fire Ritual): Offerings into the sacred fire serve as energetic transmissions to higher realms and karmic purification.
- Daan (Charity): Spiritual giving (food, clothing, dakshina) creates merit and closes the karmic loop — a vital part of any effective ritual.
In a remote puja, the priest acts as your spiritual proxy. Through mantras, mudras, offerings, and intention, your karmic body is invoked and addressed. The sankalpa — when made sincerely and accurately — creates a channel for karmic shift.
Puja done remotely doesn’t replace personal spiritual effort — but it complements it by creating momentum, relief, or blockage removal, so you can act with greater clarity.
This is also not to say that being present is equally effective. By being present you also benefit from the vibrations created by chanting of mantras, the devotion awakened within you and the time you are giving to the divine. The point being, in person is always better but in this day and age not always practical.
Restoring Energy to the Aura
From a spiritual healing perspective, pujas are especially effective because they replace or restore missing energy in the aura.
When we go through suffering, trauma, or long-term stress — or face heavy planetary influences — our aura can become fragmented, weak, or depleted. A properly done puja acts as a spiritual infusion, replenishing the planetary or divine energies that have been lost or damaged.
At the same time, a puja is not just a remedy — it is a humble appeal to the Divine. Through mantra, fire, and devotion, we ask for support, blessings, and karmic healing.
While some people feel results almost instantly, it’s important to remember:
No sincere puja goes unanswered.
Sometimes, there is heavy or complex karma that must unfold or be worked through before the external results appear. In such cases, the puja still helps — by softening the karmic weight, preparing the field for future grace, or protecting the individual in unseen ways.
When Pujas Are Most Effective
Pujas are especially impactful during periods of karmic testing or planetary pressure.
They are powerful during:
- Sade Sati — the seven-and-a-half-year Saturn transit over natal Moon, often associated with restructuring, karmic cleansing, and maturity
- Dashas (planetary periods) where the dasha lord is afflicted — for example, when the ruling planet is placed in a difficult house, receives harsh aspects, is debilitated, combust, or poorly dignified
During these times, the planetary energies may be blocked or weakened. A puja helps to:
- Reinforce the graha’s positive vibration
- Remove energetic resistance
- Create space for divine protection and right timing
Regular Pujas = Stronger Results Over Time
While a one-time puja can bring immediate relief, true transformation is often seen when pujas are repeated over time — especially Siddh Jaap pujas (with 125,000+ mantra count).
From experience:
- The first puja often clears surface-level obstacles
- Second and third go deeper, resolving subtler karmic patterns
- By the third or fourth, the energetic shift stabilises — and further pujas may no longer be needed
This is spiritual maintenance: just as physical healing requires consistency, spiritual healing also responds beautifully to regular devotion.
