Only a portion is selected to shape the current incarnation.

Prārabdha is the activated portion of Sanchita karma, chosen to be played out in this life. It governs:

• Your birth circumstances (family, country, body)
• Major life themes (health, wealth, success, struggles)
• Key relationships
• Turning points and destiny-altering events

This karma cannot be avoided, just as an arrow released from a bow must complete its course. Your natal chart, cast at the moment of birth is a snapshot of your Prārabdha karma.

🔸 3. Kriyamāṇa Karma – The Karma You’re Creating Now

The difference often lies in Prārabdha karma.

The one who receives sudden wealth may be reaping past-life merit (punya), now manifesting as financial blessings. The one struggling may be working off past karmic debts, despite present effort.

This isn’t unfair —it’s cause and effect across lifetimes. The wise response? Don’t compare. Instead, focus on creating uplifting Kriyamāṇa karma now.  Remember whilst it may appear unfair in our narrow view of the world, the soul has lived for eternity and time nor distance have any relevance to the divine.  You current physical manifestation is simply a fleeting moment in the timeline of your soul.

🧠 When Destiny Knocks Twice:
Bill Gates’ Wealth, Yogas & Destiny Fulfilled

The story of Bill Gates offers a compelling example of how karmic patterns unfold through destiny and timing. Gates’ horoscope contains a rare and potent Lakshmi Yoga, a planetary combination that signifies prosperity, fortune, and the blessings of past-life merit. In his chart, this yoga forms through the union of strong auspicious 5th and 9th lords — Venus and Saturn — with Saturn exalted. This alignment indicates not only the potential for great wealth but also the karma to receive it in this life.

Timing, as always in Jyotish, is key.

When IBM first approached Gates in 1980 about developing an operating system for their upcoming personal computer, he was running the Ketu/Saturn dasha. Ketu is often associated with detachment and spiritual themes, but in this case, the sub-period of Saturn, exalted in Libra and a key player in his Lakshmi Yoga, activated the material prosperity promised in his chart. Saturn here reflects karmic maturity, discipline, and the long-term payoff of past merit. Even during Ketu’s challenging shadowy influence, Saturn’s strength carried the weight of destiny.

Interestingly, Gates initially declined IBM’s offer, directing them instead to another software company. Venus, in its own sign, ensured that the prosperity Gates had earned over lifetimes would now manifest fully.   The Venus dasha is long and this gives such a well placed planet plenty of time to work  it’s magic, which it clearly did.

What makes this story so powerful is the way it shows karma in motion: a destined opportunity arises (IBM), free will initially pushes it away (his referral), but karma ensures it returns. Once the moment arrives again, Gates seizes it — and his personal effort, strategic thinking, and business skills (his Kriyamāṇa karma) amplify the fruits of his Prārabdha.

This is how karma and free will work hand in hand. Destiny brought the opportunity; free will made it flourish. And because of the strength and timing of his chart, that opportunity could not be lost — only delayed.
